Review : Solid performance, fair price
The only speakers I have available for comparison to my new Axiom M3 v3 bookshelf speakers is a 34 year old pair of AR-15s (Acoustic Research). My comparison may not be a fair for several reasons.
I paid $230 in 1978 dollars for the AR-15s - but they have not been manufactured for years, so there is no reasonable basis for current price comparisons. The AR-15s are quite a bit bigger than M3s, and weigh almost twice as much. The ARs have real wood veneer on cabinets vs the vinyl wrap on the Axioms, and are an acoustic suspension design with 8" woofers vs the Axioms 6.5" woofers and ported design. Furthermore, I've replaced the surrounds on the AR woofers, and replaced the tweeters with similar AR tweeters, but of a slightly newer series.
Before buying the M3s, I assumed modern materials and 34 years of design evolution of would give the new M3s an advantage in performance over the ancient ARs, especially after reading all the hype about the Axioms. However, after...
I think, explains the few grievance on M3 v3 Bookshelf Speaker - Boston Cherry not fitting or leaking.
