Review : Excellent mid-level speakers
First, as background: I have an HK 3390 receiver (80WPC) and a NAD C-545BEE CD player, and I had been running a pair of Mirage OS3-Sat bookshelf speakers coupled with a 10" Mirage sub. The Mirages are excellent bookshelf speakers, but naturally, since they only have a 1" tweeter and a 4.5" midrange driver, there was a tremendous gap from the lower mids down to the extremely low frequencies the sub handles. I dealt with it for some time but I got to the point where all sorts of stuff I knew was in my recordings was just not being faithfully reproduced.
Ultimately I decided I needed to upgrade, and luckily there is a brick-and-mortar shop about an hour away that specializes primarily in Klipsch and Polk. I tested the Klipsch RF-7s, Klipsch RF-42s, Polk TSi 500s, and the RTiA9s. I had heard criticisms of the Klipsch's horn-loaded tweeters, and I noticed why right away.
