Edit: 5/5/2013. Just bumped it to 5 stars. The device is charging my iPhone 5 on battery alone. Other reviews indicated this was not possible. I'm up from 43% to 65% in about 35 minutes of low volume listening. One small point. At very low volume listening our Jabra Soulmate does have better sound. I haven't done critical listening comparisons, but I pretty much expect this. I bought the Sony for room filling sound, where the Soulmate cannot compete.
Edit: 5/2/2013. Received the speaker about 2 hours ago and it continues to impress. I went to listen to the Bose Soundlink 2 again while waiting for the Sony and in my opinion this Sony is a level or two above. I don't like the bass on the Bose. I'm not sure this is a fair comparison as the form factor of this is less portable. But the price point is the same and I think the SRS-BTX500 is still portable, not quite into the range of transportable. Make no mistake, it would be a commitment to take this with you in a carry-on.
