There's seemingly infinite choices of brands and setups for stereos or really any electronics product out there. I chose Yamaha because they were a brand that I know to be leaders in the sound industry. I have a Yamaha acoustic guitar that is really nice, I've heard nice things about their electronic products like this stereo, and hell even Lexus recruited Yamaha to tune the exhaust note on their supercar, the LFA.
About what you're getting - the stereo receiver and the subwoofer are heavy and solid, the speakers, not so much. At least not on the heavy end. The construction appears top notch. It's an attractive system. All the speakers have a little gloss to them. As I said, the satellite speakers (2 front, 2 rear, 1 center) are very light, and very small for that matter. They sound very good nonetheless.
It's a really nice system for watching movies, but maybe not quite as nice for music. The speakers are just too small. If you like to really pump up your music,...
